Situated on Walker Bay, it is one of the best places on earth for whale watching, close encounters with Cape Fur Seals, as well as Great White Shark cage diving (an absolute thrill just down the road in Gansbaai). Beyond the thrill of seeing these great animals of the sea, there are a myriad of other activities for the nature lover, including an all time favorite – laying out on one the spectacular beaches! Of course there is enough in town to keep you busy as well. Great galleries, local markets and restaurants will keep you occupied. But, don’t forget that the reason you are coming here is to relax.
So you’ve read a bit of what you can do while you are in the area. But, you may discover that you won’t be in such a hurry to get through your list once you arrive to Birkenhead House. Best of all, you’ll have time to relax and reflect while floating in their infinity pool which overlooks Walker Bay and beyond. The sunsets here are magical!
We can safely say that we’ve stayed at some incredible properties around the world… and, we can now say with confidence that La Residence is among the best of the best!
La Residence is located in the quaint town of Franschhoek, just about an hours drive from Cape Town, South Africa. Perched atop a hill, surrounded by it’s fruit orchards, vegetable gardens and vineyard, the hotel’s suites offer stunning views of valley’s landscape. La Residence houses eleven unique suites in it’s main building and five free standing villas (each with private pools). Each room’s interior is decorated with a different color palette and in it’s own style. They’re opulent, yet warm and comfortable. And, the beds… they’re amazing! It’s hard to choose a favorite here, as they are all so beautiful and special in their own way. It’s like choosing a favorite child, as you love them all. The small thoughtful details throughout the property convey a sense of place and belonging.
It may be hard to step away from the property, but there is much to explore in the region. Wine, of course, is the number one attraction for foreign and local visitors! There are over eight hundred wineries in the area surrounding Franschhoek and the nearby town of Stellenbosch. One can spend months exploring this beautiful area and tasting their way around the fantastic wineries. But, there is so much more to do as well. This is a great destination for the art lover, the shopper, the hiker, the biker, the golfer and the foodie! There is definitely plenty to keep everyone happy.
The location is great, the hotel is absolutely beautiful, but, it’s the staff that really brings it all together at La Residence. They are absolutely fabulous. Every encounter with each member is a pleasure. The perfect mix of great service and great personality.
